Star India batter Virat Kohli added yet another milestone in his already illustrious international cricket career. While batting against Bangladesh on Day 2 of the ongoing Chennai Test, the Delhi-based batter notched up 12,000 runs on the home soil aka in India. As a result, Kohli became only the second player behind the former Indian legend, Sachin Tendulkar, to have achieved the feat.

Notably, the landmark was achieved in the second innings of the first Test being played at the iconic Chepauk Stadium. The batting stalwart who recently bid adieu to the T20I format claimed this feat in his 219th appearance for the country. Incredibly enough, during this long journey, Kohli scored 38 centuries and 59 fifties to cross the 12,000-run barrier while averaging an astonishing 58.84. While the legendary batting maestro Tendulkar accumulated a mind-boggling 14,192 runs after featuring in 258 games for the Indian team. The Mumbai-based batter had a remarkable 42 centuries and 70 fifties at home.

Virat Kohli, who recently retired from the T20I format reached this feat on his 219th match for the Indian cricket team. Kohli’s 12,000+ runs have come at an average of 58.84 and includes 38 hundreds and 59 fifties. In comparison, Sachin Tendulkar retired with 14,192 runs to his name from 258 matches at an average of 50.32. Sachin had 42 centuries and 70 fifties to his name in Indian conditions.

Kohli bid adieu to the T20I format after winning the T20 World Cup for India

Besides, apart from both the batting masters, among active Indian cricketers, only the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is following Kohli with nearly a gap of over three thousand runs between them. Currently, fans and experts are hoping that with the kind of fitness Virat Kohli has, he is most likely to feature for India in one more mega event in the form of the ODI World Cup which is slated for 2027. As of now, Kohli had a good IPL 2024 season and then went on to win the T20 World Cup for India after beating South Africa in the grand final, which was held in Barbados.

Even though, he may not found his batting mojo on return to Test cricket, it is only a matter of time as the global cricket icon will be hoping to score big and eclipse Tendulkar’s record at home.
