According to the latest developments, former Indian cricketer, Vinod Kambli, has been admitted to Akriti Hospital in Thane. The unfortunate news for his fans comes after his health condition suddenly took a downturn.

As of now, a team of doctors is attending to Kambli, in addition to the necessary tests being conducted to further assess the situation, as reported by India TV Hindi.

It is a well-established fact that Kambli’s mental health has detracted over the past several years, leading him to become psychologically fragile and giving in to consumption of alcohol in excessive amounts. The cricket fraternity is behind him and expressing the erstwhile southpaw to recover in as prompt a manner as possible.

A few weeks ago, a clip of him along with childhood friend and former Indian cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar, had gone viral. The perennial friends had met after a long time at an event in Mumbai, organised for their childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar.

There were several moments from the programme which were captured, during which Kambli’s condition didn’t seem optimal. He seemed to be devastated when Sachin was told to be seated a few seats away from Kambli instead of next to him. Furthermore, The 52-year-old even dedicated a heart-warming song to Achrekar in the latter’s remembrance.

The Mumbai-born, who had kickstarted his Test career with flying colours, was forecasted to be a future great of the game. However, he fell off the grid soon. This was mainly due to poor dietary habits and a lack of discipline in general. There would also be reports of Kambli becoming complacent of his position in the team, leading to him not taking practice sessions seriously.

The cricketer ended his international career with an average of 54.20, registering 1,084 runs to his name. He scored 14 half-centuries and two tons in the 97 ODI encounters for the Men in Blue.
