Mumbai Indians (MI) have scouted talented left-arm wrist-spinner Vignesh Puthur ahead of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise went after him despite the fact that he has not played any domestic cricket and has limited T20 experience, having played a few games in Kerala Cricket League (KCL).

However, the move paid off in the very first game of the season as Puthur grabbed headlines by picking three wickets against Mumbai Indians’ arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk on Sunday, March 23.

Ramakrishnan S, the batting coach of KCL team Alleppey Ripples, whom Puthur represents, shared his first impressions of the youngster. Notably, Puthur has played just played in four games in the KCL and has two wickets in the sa,e.

“We saw Vignesh at our KCL camp in Thrissur. And he impressed on the very first day. Believe me, I thought if he plays even five matches in KCL, he will be in the radar for an IPL franchise. I was that much positive and the way he bowled, we cannot explain in one or two words. He is like a champion bowler. There is no nervousness and he is so courageous,” Ramakrishnan S told MyKhel.

Against CSK, the 24-year-old came in to bowl after the powerplay and dismissed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was playing on 53 runs in 26 balls, in the very first over. He didn’t let the Chepauk atmosphere frighten him as he went on to dismiss Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda subsequently.

Ramakrishnan went on to praise the bowler and spoke about his habit of not repeating the mistakes. “The biggest positive about he is that he never repeats his mistakes. If he concedes a six or a four by a poor delivery, he never bowls that in the entire match. He maintains his rhythm and his commitment to discipline is amazing,” added batting coach Ramakrishnan S.
