Hayley Matthews dismissed Priya Mishra for three fours off successive deliveries to get the Mumbai Indians Women’s innings going during the Eliminator of the Women’s Premier League 2025 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 13.
A drag-down on leg-stump was appropriately dealt with by Matthews, who rocked on to the back foot to clobber the ball to the right of the fielder at deep mid-wicket. The second delivery of Priya’s first over was disdainfully cut across to the deep point region. A juicy full toss was swiped towards deep backward square leg for the third boundary on the bounce.
The 20-year-old leg spinner was at the receiving end of another bashing by the Barbadian top-order batter during the 16th over of the innings. Matthews ended up scoring 77 off 50 deliveries, the joint-top-scorer of the innings along with Nat Sciver-Brunt. Mishra ended up with figures of 0/40 in three overs.
Matthews’ all-round display leads Mumbai to summit clash
It wasn’t just Matthews’ batting which was impressive during Gujarat. She starred with the ball too. Two of her dismissals were opposition skipper, Ashleigh Gardner, and aggressive middle-order batter, Bharti Fulmali. The Caribbean all-rounder ended up with a three-wicket haul to her name after claiming the final wicket of the Gujarat innings.

She was awarded the Player of the Match accolade for her clinical all-round display. The 47-run win by Mumbai led them to their second final in three seasons. It was also their third win of the season against Gujarat; their seventh overall in the history of the WPL. They will take on Delhi Capitals Women in the final of WPL 2025 at the same venue on Saturday, March 15.
