India and England are currently facing off in the first game of the five-match test series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. India scored 436 runs in response to England’s 246 in the first innings as Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja all contributed, scoring 80, 86, and 87 respectively.

Notably, Jadeja was dismissed controversially and became the third Indian batter who to miss a potential century. The off-spin delivery from Joe Root slid on with the arm, hitting Jadeja on the front pad as he pressed forward to defend. The impact of the ball was debated, leading to a big roar from the crowd.

UltraEdge showed a spike when the ball was between the bat and the pad. Third umpire Marais Erasmus requested a leg-side angle, but only the front-on angle was available. The TV umpire stated, “I can’t determine if it’s bat first.”

The decision went to ball-tracking, revealing the impact around off-stump, with the ball just clipping the top of the stumps. The on-field call stayed, and Jadeja fell short of a hundred, becoming the third Indian batter to be dismissed in the 80s in the innings.

Jadeja played an impressive innings, smashing seven fours and two sixes in his brilliant knock. He formed crucial partnerships, first with KS Bharat and then with Axar Patel, contributing significantly to India’s substantial score. Axar also played a valuable innings, scoring 44 off 100 balls with seven fours and one six, helping India take a significant 190-run lead.

For England, Root stood out with the ball, taking four important wickets. Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed also made notable contributions, each taking two wickets but they were on the expensive side. As Jadeja was dismissed, fans on social media began expressing their reactions and sharing their opinions, commending Jadeja’s performance and lamenting his unlucky dismissal.
