Following a poor performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup, legendary cricketer Wasim Akram expressed his frustration over foreign coaches in Pakistan cricket. As per the 57-year-old, the coaches are not helping in the growth of the national team as they neither go to the academy (NCA) nor remain with the team for the entire 12 months. He complained that foreign coaches only come during a tour and after it is done and dusted they go back, which is not benefiting the side.
Akram believes that their involvement is very limited and there is no long-term growth. He demanded more active involvement and voiced in favour of Pakistanis to coach the national team. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir too believes the same and mentioned that the foreign coaches only deceived Pakistan in recent times.
“Our foreign coaches aren’t here (in Pakistan) all the time. They only come for tours. They don’t make efforts to visit the NCA and coach youngsters or other coaches. They don’t focus on man-management and the psychological aspect. Unhone to laddu khilaya hua hai hum sab ko (we are just being fooled),” Akram was quoted as saying by DNA.
We have the opportunity to change history: Shan Masood
After Babar Azam stepped down as the captain of the Pakistan team, Shan Masood has been given the role and his first assignment is a tough away series against Australia. Ahead of the practice match against Prime Minister XI, the newly-appointed skipper stated that it is a great opportunity for the players to change history as Pakistan have never won a Test series in Australia.
“Firstly, we see it as an opportunity. When you haven’t done something before in your history, then you have an opportunity to go out there and try to change it. So that’s what we’re trying to do, to get a positive result for Pakistan and in this World Test Championship,” stated Masood during a press conference.
