India and South Africa are all set to face off in a multi-format series after the conclusion of India’s ongoing five-T20I affair against Australia. Both India and the Proteas will face off in three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Test matches.
Meanwhile, with only two Tests scheduled between India and South Africa, former South African batter AB de Villiers is left wanting for more. The 39-year-old came forward to opine that organising just two Tests between India and South Africa does not do justice to the rivalry.
“It is frustrating (2 tests) from a South African point of view. India gets their share of 3–4 tests per series when they play in India. India, Australia, and England get these Test matches. It is a shame because these two teams have a great rivalry and have such a great history. Indian players love coming to South Africa. Two Tests does not do justice to the rivalry,” de Villiers said in a video on his YouTube channel.
I would have asked for wickets with pace and bounce: AB de Villiers
Furthermore, De Villiers also talked about the kinds of pitches that he would have asked for. The former batter opined that he would have looked towards pitches with pace and bounce as that would give South Africa the best chance to defeat India.
“If I had been in the SA camp, I would have asked wickets with pace and bounce. These are the two things that will help South Africa beat India. Not so much seam movement, as the Indian pacers can also extract that. The Indian squad has a bit more class and are hungrier to win it here, while South Africa have the conditions in their favor,” de Villiers said.
