Hosts Australia (AUS) are in a commanding position on Day 2 of the ongoing day-night aka pink-ball Test in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). Star batter Travis Head continued his majestic form against familiar opponent India (IND) at his home ground in Adelaide. The Aussie not only tormented the Indian bowlers but also went on to notch up another world record for him.
Notably, after wrapping up the Indian side for 180, except for an early wicket of Usman Khawaja and later on, Steve Smith, the rest of the top-order batters contributed decently given the unpredictable nature of the pink ball. However, the star of the day was none other than Head, who ended up bettering his world record of scoring the fastest century in the pink ball Test history.
At one stage, Australia were slightly ahead of India’s score with half the side back in the hut, it was Head who played fearlessly and counterattacked the Indian bowlers to score briskly. Consequently, by the time he was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj, the score went past the 300-run mark, meaning the hosts had gained a significant lead.
For the unversed, before today (December 7), Travis Head had scored a century against the arch-rivals England in Hobart in the year 2022. During that knock, he took 112 balls to reach the landmark. But he scored today’s century a ball quicker taking 111 balls to break his world record.
Incredibly enough, the top three names in the elite list belong to none other than the explosive Australian. Head also holds the third spot as he pummelled West Indies in 2022. He took 125 deliveries to get to the three figures in the process. Speaking of today’s thrilling knock, there were moments when Head got lucky to be not dismissed.
While he was batting on 78, he got his first reprieve against Ravichandran Ashwin in an attempt to slog sweep but Siraj put the catch down which was a tough chance. Interestingly, on the same score, Harshit Rana’s outside the off-stump line delivery got a thick edge off Head’s bat but flew past Rishabh Pant and Skipper Rohit Sharma as the first slip fielder was not stationed at that moment.

Meanwhile, it seems that Lady Luck is smiling on Head as this was his third ton at the Adelaide Oval. Interestingly, while celebrating his hundred, Head dedicated his century to his newborn child along with waving towards his daughter and wife who were in attendance to relish the moment. Currently at stumps on Day 2, Australia lead by 157 runs, after they were bowled out for 337 in their first innings. As a result, Team India now have a stiff task cut out to first do away with the lead and then hope to set a decent enough target to have a chance of a comeback in the pink ball Test.
