Alyssa Healy became the latest international cricketer to share her views on Harmanpreet Kaur’s run-out dismissal in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 semi-final clash. She said that Harmanpreet didn’t give her best while completing the run to cross the crease, which has left Twitter divided.
The star Australian wicketkeeper-batter took the bails off from Ashleigh Gardner’s throw to run out the Indian captain in a thrilling semi-final clash in Cape Town on February 23. This wicket proved to be a game-changing moment as Australia managed to defend 172 runs to win the game by just five runs. Harmanpreet kept her team’s hopes alive in the chase by smashing 52 off 34 but was unfortunate to get run out.
While completing a second run, Harmanpreet seemed relaxed as she thought she will easily pass the crease. She even held the bat in her left hand and that proved costly. Her bat got stuck to the ground and she couldn’t complete the run on time.
After the game, Harmanpreet revealed that it was one of the unluckiest ways to get out but Healy believes that if the former had genuinely put in the effort then she could have passed the crease.
“Harmanpreet can say all she likes that it was so unlucky but I mean at the end of the day she cruised back and probably could have been passed the crease. You know, an extra two meters if she genuinely put in the effort, so we’ll take it. Well, that’s right, I mean, you can, you could say you’re unlucky all your life but it’s genuinely about effort and energy at that moment in time. And I know that’s something we speak about in the field in particular is putting in that effort and putting in that energy,” Healy said while speaking to ABC.
Healy also highlighted the importance of running between the wickets by saying that that’s where Australia are winning the big tournaments.
“And I think that comes back to running between wickets as well. It’s doing those little basics better than the opposition and that’s how you win big tournaments. And I feel like we’ve been doing that quite well,” Healy added.
However, Healy is not the first one to share her views on Harmanpreet’s dismissal. Former Indian captain and legendary bowler Diana Edulji lambasted Harmanpreet for being casual with her run. Fans are also split over Healy’s comments on Harmanpreet’s run-out and took to Twitter to express their views.
