West Indies made a stunning comeback against Pakistan to draw level and end the two-match Test series on a high. They were successful in getting the better of Pakistan by a 120-run margin in Multan. A clinical performance by the visitors got them over the line, with the match concluding with a little over eight sessions remaining.

West Indian Test skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite, was elated with the triumph, the Windies’ first against in Pakistan in the longest format since November 1990. Brathwaite claimed it to be an even bigger achievement bearing in mind the average age of his XI in comparision to that of Pakistan.

“We haven’t played in Pakistan for a number of years, but we haven’t won here in a while, so to come here and do it as a young group is incredible. On this pitch, there’s a ball with your name on it around the corner. We did that with the bat in the second innings, and it was good to see. It was a good experience. When you play on better pitches, you can have a similar mindset, and it will help you in the long run,” stated Brathwaite in the post-match ceremony.

‘He showed his class, and he’s here to stay’ – Brathwaite on Warrican

The top-order batter was lavish in praise for the duo of Jomel Warrican and in particular, Gudakesh Motie, for their performances during the game.

“He always says he’s one of the best players of off-spin in the Caribbean, it’s good to see him get some runs. Him and Motie in the first innings really set the game up for us. He’s been in and out for a long time, but he showed his class, and he’s here to stay,” added Brathwaite.

Coming in at No. 9, Motie’s 55 was the highest score for West Indies in their first innings. He put on a pivotal 68-run stand for the final wicket with Warrican to help his side set up 163 on the board. Warrican’s 36 and 18 in his side’s first and second innings, respectively, as well as his nine-wicket haul in the game earned him the Player of the Match.
