The player auction for the seventh edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is all set to kick-start on Thursday, February 23, and will culminate on Friday, February 24. The marquee event will take place at the Plush hotel in Mahabalipuram. In the previous six editions, a draft system was in place for the selection of players but it has now been replaced by an auction.
The TNPL auction will witness many established performers of the T20 circuit and franchises are expected to leave no stone unturned to acquire them. A total of 942 players have registered for the auction and they are divided into four categories (A, B, C, and D) on the basis of their stature in competitive cricket. Each franchise was allowed to retain a maximum of two players (one in category A or B, the other in Category C or D).
