Sanjay Manjrekar targetted the Indian coaching staff amidst poor batting performances by Indian batters in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The former India batter gave a harsh statement on their role and how they are the reason for India batters failing in the series so far.
The win at Perth was the best possible start the Indian team could get going into the series against Australia but from there it has been a series of poor performances especially from the Indian batters who have struggled against the Aussie bowlers. The match at Gabba is the same story with the visitors losing 4 wickets for just 51 runs with top batters Shubman Gill (1), Yashasvi Jaiswal (4), Virat Kohli (3), and Rishabh Pant (9) getting dismissed for cheap scores in the first innings.
The Indian batters have had a fair share of struggles in the series so far and are facing a lot of criticism from the experts. One of the experts who has criticized the performances of the Indian team is former India cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar. The former Mumbai batter gave a harsh statement on social media regarding the role of the batting coaches of the Indian team in not being able to resolve the batting woes.
“I guess the time has come to scrutinise the role of a batting coach in the Indian team. Why major technical issues have remained unresolved for so long with certain Indian batters,” Manjrekar wrote on microblogging and social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

This might be a strong and unapologetic statement from the 59-year-old commentator, and one of the biggest examples of the unresolved issues he might be indirectly talking about is Virat Kohli struggling to tackle the deliveries bowled on a line outside off stump. Notably, Kohli, after the century in Perth, has had scores of 7, 11, and 3 later in the series where the majority of the time he has been getting dismissed by chasing the ball and edging it to either the keeper or the slip cordon.
