Yashasvi Jaiswal has rapidly climbed through the ladders of success in the past few months after his stellar show with the bat in the IPL 2023. The southpaw shattered record books during the T20 extravaganza as he registered the most number of runs (625) by an uncapped batter in the history of the league. Jaiswal was rewarded for his dream run as it opened the doors for his national selection and he got his maiden India call-up as a reserve for the World Test Championship final 2023.

The 21-year-old has been grabbing attention worldwide for his remarkable gameplay and a wide array of strokes. Former England captain Nasser Hussian recently showered praise on the youngster and revealed the chat he had with Ricky Ponting about his talent.

“From what I’ve seen…he’s (Jaiswal) made a fantastic start. You speak to people who have seen him in the IPL, again I’ve been working with Ricky (Ponting) and Dinesh (Karthik) came over, and you ask questions, and they all go, yeah, this lad can play,” Hussain said in the ICC Review.

Hussain further credited the Indian first-class setup and the IPL for producing one quality talent after the other.

“He looks to have the technique and he looks to have that mindset. Like most young Indian players and batters in particular, most of them come in and have immediate success. And that is a good sign for first-class cricket, that they are being produced, not just the IPL,” he added.

Jaiswal became 17th Indian player to score a hundred on Test debut

Notably, Jaiswal got his international career off to a rollicking start as he notched up a sensational hundred on his debut during the first Test of the recent two-match series against the West Indies in Dominica. The southpaw scored a brilliant 171 (387) and became the 17th Indian player to score a hundred on his Test debut. Furthermore, he recently made his T20I debut as well during the third T20I of the same tour.

However, he couldn’t leave an impact as he got dismissed for 1 (2) in the first over itself. The Uttar Pradesh-born batter will be eager to make amends in the fourth game of the series on Saturday, August 12.
