Team India defeated Ireland, Pakistan and USA on their way to the Super 8 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Their final group game against Canada was called off due to rain, yet the Men in Blue finished top of the table and will play Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia in the next round, which will be played entirely in West Indies. The Rohit Sharma-led side is yet to play a single game in the Caribbean islands but as per former cricketer Stephen Fleming, they have a very good side keeping the conditions in mind.

Ahead of the tournament, Rohit spoke about the importance of picking four spinners and according to Fleming, they will be very effective in the Super 8 and beyond. He added that India were smart enough to assess the conditions beforehand and picked players who can do well in spin-friendly tracks. The 51-year-old analysed that India have a balanced squad and looks in good shape going into the Super 8.

“I like the job they’ve done, they’ve got through. This is a team that in some ways is picked for the finals in my view, it’s a team that has spinners that can dominate, it has players that can dominate spin and we’ve seen spin in the West Indies play quite a big part, not so much in New York,” Fleming said in ESPNcricinfo’s ‘Timeout show.

Furthermore, the former New Zealand skipper and legend, Stephen Fleming, believes that Team India have wisely picked their bowlers for the crucial games of the T20 World Cup 2024 as they have been in good shape. Hence he expects the Indian bowlers to put up a good show, especially in the big games like the semifinals and the summit clash, if the Men in Blue go all the way through to the knockout rounds.

“They’ve got job done and they’ve got quite smartly a view of mind, this is how we want to play the key games now going into hopefully the semi-finals and final. They’ve picked a team that they think may be playing a turning track, this will give us our best chance at the top and has good balance and we’ve seen that sort of in stops and starts and it’s just been because of conditions but I think they’re in good shape,” he added.

India will play Afghanistan in their next match on (Thursday) June 20, in Barbados. They will host Bangladesh on June 22 in Antigua and play their final Super 8 game against Australia on June 24, in St Lucia.
