Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has opened up on the heated controversy between David Warner and Mitchell Johnson. Johnson’s outspoken views on Warner in a recent column have gained significant attention.

The former paceman extensively criticized Warner, accusing him of arrogance and disrespect. Johnson further emphasized Warner’s involvement in the sandpaper scandal and contended that the seasoned opener did not merit a “hero’s send off“.

Additionally, he directed criticism at chief selector George Bailey, citing a text he received after expressing disapproval of West Australian fast bowler Lance Morris being rested for a Sheffield Shield match.

Meanwhile, Waugh asserted that players should be resilient and be capable of handling criticism.

“They are both adults who are entitled to their opinions and should be able to handle criticism,” Waugh told The Sydney Morning Herald.

Johnson to be commentator in first Test between Australia and Pakistan

Amid the controversy involving Warner, there were concerns about Johnson’s commentary role with Triple M. However, several reports indicated that the 42-year-old will be on commentary dut in the forthcoming Test series between the Kangaroos and Pakistan. Although his name was initially absent from the 18-member commentary list, he is set to fulfill his duties. The first Test between Australia and Pakistan is scheduled to commence on December 14.

Warner, playing in his swansong series, faces the challenge of concluding his remarkable journey in the longest format of the game on a positive note. With the left-handed batter delivering inconsistent performances over the past two years, he is eager to showcase his prowess in the upcoming series as well. Meanwhile, Pakistan are currently engaged in a practice match against PM XI.

Australia’s squad for 1st vs Pakistan Test: Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitch Marsh, Lance Morris, Steve Smith, Mitch Starc, David Warner.
