Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by a 50-run margin at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk on March 28. The men in yellow coach, Stephen Fleming acknowledged that the team had failed to read the wickets properly which led to the triumph for RCB at Chepauk for the second time in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL).

The CSK coach claimed at the post-match press conference that the team found it very tough to figure out the pitch on Friday against the Patidar-led team. He said that the Super Kings had no advantage at the MA Chidambaram Stadium for the past couple of years and admitted that the team had miscalculated the impact of the dew and was outsmarted by the Royal Challengers.

“We have been telling you for many years, there was no home advantage at Chepauk – We haven’t been able to read the wickets here in the last couple of years. So, it’s not new. We are trying to come to grips each day with what we get, and we don’t know – it’s so hard to read,” said Fleming.

The Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad condemned the poor batting display in the first six overs, and dropped catches led to the defeat against Bengaluru. The right-handed batter claimed that Chennai’s loss by 50 runs was merely an excuse for their defeat on Friday.

“Bad day in the fielding cost us really badly. When you’re chasing 20 runs extra on a wicket where you know it’s going to be a little bit sticky and it’s going to stop after the ball gets old, you have to bat slightly differently in the powerplay. Still happy that we didn’t lose by a big margin and at the end it was just 50 runs,” said Gaikwad in the post-match presentation.
