Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon wants to win bring more laurels to his country before he calls time on his career. Lyon has been Australia’s first-choice red-ball spinner for several years. Notably, Australia will take on India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final from June 7 at the Oval in London, which will be followed by the 2023 Ashes in England from June 16 to July 31.

Despite the rise of players such as Todd Murphy, Mitchell Swepson, Ashton Agar and Matthew Kuhnemann, Lyon has no plans to retire anytime soon. The veteran spinner has achieved plenty in his career but has failed to win an Ashes series in England or win against India on the subcontinent.

Lyon indicated that with both the series coinciding in 2027, he might play until then to clinch the series. The 35-year-old stated that he does not want to pick a particular number of wickets and then retire, adding that he wants to improve every day by learning and enjoying the game.

“There is no line in the sand. I am not saying I want to get so many wickets and then be calling it quits. It is still about me trying to get better each day, learning, and really enjoying the game,” Lyon was quoted by 7News.

“Winning in India has been achieved by Australian cricket teams before but it is still something I would love to be able to do. My dreams are to be able to win (the World Test Championship) in England and win in India.”

He laimed that he had never met anyone who could master the game of cricket and emphasized that he will not conquer it, but would do his best to learn each day. Lyon also mentioned that one will learn from failures along the way and will find a way to improve.

“I have never met anyone who can conquer the game of cricket. I definitely won’t conquer it, but I am going to give it my best to learn each and every day and try and get better. You learn from your mistakes throughout your journey and you find a way to get better,” he added.
