Following Virat Kohli’s sixth century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday, May 18, former Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir dubbed the Indian ace cricketer to be the “Only Real King” in the game of cricket. Kohli scored a magnificent century as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets, and the victory kept RCB in contention for a playoff position.

With the century, Virat Kohli equaled former RCB player Chris Gayle’s record by hitting his sixth century for the team as well as in the tournament. The game marked the first time in IPL history that a player of both teams notched up a century, with Kohli’s sixth century (100 off 63) overshadowing Heinrich Klassen’s outstanding 104 off 51 balls.

“What an innings by one and only the real king @imVkohli take a bow,” Amir wrote on Twitter.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, “Inswing with Amir”, he stated that Virat Kohli is his favourite batter in the current era of international cricket and that no one can ever match him.

“There is no comparison between Virat with any other player of this generation. Virat’s achievements are unbelievable. Today he achieved another feat. This hundred was so special because it was a must-win game for RCB and he stepped up. The kind of shots he has played is unbelievable. We know about his class and a big player will always come good when going gets tough,” said Amir.

With the victory, RCB moved up to the fourth spot in the IPL 2023 points table as Virat’s century and Faf du Plessis’ magnificent 47-ball 71 took the team one step closer to a playoff spot. With one more game remaining to be played against the defending champions Gujarat Titans, the Bengaluru-based franchise and Amir, both hope for RCB to get yet another big victory, in order to secure a place in the knockout stages.

“He has scored his first hundred in four years, his sixth in tournament’s history. He is the real king of cricket. If he will play for five more years I don’t know how many records he is going to set, you never know. RCB’s hope for the semifinals are alive now. I hope they play in the semis and final and also win the title,” he added.
