India will travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with the first Test starting from November 22. India have won the last three editions of the trophy, two in Australia and one recently at home in 2023. One knock that every Indian fan remembers fondly is that of Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 89 runs in the Gabba Test which resulted in a series win for India.
But Australia captain, Pat Cummins has overlooked Pant’s iconic in naming his most memorable innings from the Indo-Aus rivalry in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The right-arm pacer picked legend Sachin Tendulkar’s unbeaten 241 runs from the Sydney Test in 2004 as his most memorable innings from the series’ inception.

Tendulkar was named Player of the Match in Sydney Test
It is worth noting that, the 241-run knock of Tendulkar holds much more importance than his highest score down under in the format. He got dismissed multiple times playing his favourite shot, the cover drive, as Australian bowlers stuck to the ploy. The most admirable aspect of the innings was the fact that the India legend did not play a single cover drive in the 436 balls he faced throughout the innings.

As a result, he accrued just 82 runs in five innings in the series. His 353-run stand with VVS Laxman for the fourth wicket is India’s highest partnership for the fourth wicket.
Having said that, Sachin managed to smash 33 boundaries in his innings. The match resulted in a draw and the same was with the series as India finished their tour on 1-1. Rahul Dravid was named as the Player of the Series and Tendulkar was adjudged Player of the Match in the Sydney Test.
