South Africa captain Temba Bavuma expects his frontline batters to be more aggressive and ruthless in the second Test against West Indies in Guyana. The opening game of the series ended on level terms after rain played spoilsport. The visitors had the upper hand for the majority of the time but on the final day, West Indies scripted a comeback, resulting in a draw.

Ahead of the second Test, Bavuma asked the batters to seize the opportunity at the top of the order and give the team a good start. He added that there was a sense of frustration after the last match as he believes that South Africa would have pulled off a win had there been a bit more time available.

“The batters need to be a lot more ruthless. The guys who get the opportunity to settle in, must really go on and get a base score for the team that will give us a lot more time from a bowling point of view. There was obviously a little bit of frustration at the fact that with a little bit more time, a result could have been possible,” Bavuma was quoted as saying by Times of India.

Bavuma lauded the bowlers and stated that they did their best, considering what was in front of them. He added that they are a young side and the confidence is growing in the team and believes that will make them a formidable side.

“I think the bowlers did as best as they could, considering what was in front of them. There was a miraculous effort from Keshav (Maharaj), basically bowling of half the overs of the innings. The confidence is growing within the team, it’s a young, inexperienced side. I think it’s just a case of us working on that, putting it all together, which I believe will really make us a formidable team,” Bavuma added.
