During the match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, May 2, there was a controversial decision. The incident occurred in the 15th over of the SRH innings when Travis Head was on strike. While trying to drive a fuller delivery from Avesh Khan, Head missed the ball as it was way outside the off stump. Sanju Samson collected the ball and threw it back at the stumps, catching Head short of his crease.

The replay showed that the bat of the SRH batter was in the air when the ball hit the stumps. However, the third umpire, Rohan Pandit, ruled that the batter was not out. This decision made the RR dugout furious as Kumar Sangakkara was seen arguing with the fourth umpire. Nevertheless, RR made a comeback in the subsequent ball as Avesh bowled a similar delivery and dismissed Head. Head attempted to play the ball down the leg side by shuffling across, but he ended up guiding it into the stumps.

“Horrible decision again from their umpire. There were two more frames to see. Head’s bat was in the air,” said Irfan Pathan on air.

“That is called Karma. Karma strikes,” said Sunil Gavaskar while on commentary just after Head’s dismissal.

SRH pull off last ball thriller to claim the game against RR

After winning the toss, SRH had a rough start as they lost the wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh during the Powerplay. However, Head and Nitish Reddy’s partnership of 96 runs off 57 deliveries helped SRH to recover from the early loss. Heinrich Klaasen played a quick inning of 42 not out of 19 balls at the end to give the team a competitive total of 201 for 3.

In the second innings, RR batters Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson fell early as Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up two wickets in the first over. However, Riyan Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal built a partnership of 133 runs to keep RR in the game. But, SRH’s bowlers made a strong comeback and picked up quick wickets to put the pressure back on RR. Eventually, the match went down to the wire as the game was decided on the last ball where SRH managed to snatch the win.
