It was a fitting conclusion for Rahul Dravid, the now-ex-head coach of India, as the location where his captaincy saw the team’s early exit in the 2007 50-over World Cup also became the site of his significant triumph with the team. Known for his serene and composed demeanor, Dravid was witnessed in an atypically animated state during the trophy presentation ceremony following the thrilling seven-run victory against South Africa in Barbados.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently shared a poignant 210-second video clip capturing Dravid’s final farewell address in the dressing room, where his words captivated the assembled audience, engrossing them in his eloquence. Dravid expressed profound gratitude for being part of such a memorable journey, expressing pride in the team’s resilience and acknowledging the sacrifices of family, coaches, and others, in the players’ journey.
He specifically thanked Rohit for the decision to extend his coaching tenure through the T20 World Cup following the disappointment of the 2023 Cricket World Cup, among other topics. At the end of the clip, he also gave the BCCI its due credit for making the experience and the system as seamless as it could get for the team.

“I’m really short of words, but all I want to say is…thank you to everyone for making me a part of what is an incredible memory. I think all of you will remember these moments. It’s not about the runs, not about the wickets, but you’ll remember moments like this. So let’s really enjoy this. I could not be more proud of you guys. To come back the way you did, the way you fought, the way we worked as a team, the resilience,” shared Dravid, in a video posted by the BCCI.
“Would just like to say, Ro (Rohit), thank you very much for making that call to me in November and asking me to continue. I think it’s been a privilege to play with each and every one of you, but also to Ro. Thanks for the time…but thank you so very much.
“Behind our great team, there’s also a successful organization. I’d just like to acknowledge the work of the BCCI and the people behind the scenes for the work they’ve done for us. Each and every one of us comes through a system, each and every one of us through an organization that gives us the opportunities to grow and play, so thank you very much,” concluded Dravid.
