Cricket South Africa (CSA) unveiled the nominees for the annual CSA Awards for the 2022-23 season. Notably, star cricketers such as Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, and Marizanne Kapp among others have been nominated in various categories of the awards.

The CSA awards will be held on July 7, at the Vodaworld, in Midrand, which also marks the return of an in-person awards show for the first time, since the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards are held in order to recognise and incorporate the noteworthy moments of the 2022-23 season with a theme named ‘A Summer to Celebrate’.

Notably, Proteas ODI and Test skipper, Temba Bavuma, features in as many as four categories, including the SA Men’s Player of the Year, ODI Player of the Year and Test Player of the Year. Likewise, ace pacer Anrich Nortje too made his place in four categories after a solid season with the ball that earned him 10th place in the ICC T20I bowling rankings.

Aiden Markram, the skipper in the T20Is, is in contention for the SA Men’s Player of the Year award along with explosive hitter David Miller. 34-year-old Miller is also competing for the ODI Player of the Year accolade, after relishing a decent white-ball season in 2022-23. Speaking about the youngsters, Tony de Zorzi, Gerald Coetzee, and Tristan Stubbs have been nominated for the International Men’s Newcomer of the Year award.

Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp dazzle in women’s categories

Shabnim Ismail played an integral role in South Africa’s impressive World Cup campaign which helped them cruise to the final of the T20 Women’s World Cup 2023. With eight scalps, Shabnim was the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the marquee event in South Africa.

In May 2023, the pacer called time on her career but stated that she will continue to play in domestic T20 leagues around the world. She has been nominated in four categories, whereas Kapp has earned her place in the Women’s T20 and ODI International Player of the Year categories.

Ashwell Prince (former cricketer), Crystal Arnold (SuperSport presenter and producer), Patrick Moroney (CSA Selector), cricket reporters Firdose Moonda and Khanyiso Tshwaku, with CSA statistician Andrew Samson are part of the judging panel for the awards.
