The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) announced an 18-member squad for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season ahead of their opener against Saurashtra. Tamil Nadu will take on Saurashtra from October 11 to 14. It is worth noting that Tamil Nadu reached the semi-final of the previous season and were outdone by the eventual champions Mumbai.
R Sai Kishore, who led the team in the last season, has been entrusted with the captaincy role. He led the team to its first semi-final since the 2016-17 season. Wicketkeeper-batter N. Jagadeesan is named as the vice-captain of the team. Jagadeesan had an incredible run in the last season scoring 816 runs. Apart from this, C. Andre Siddarth has got a maiden call-up after scoring an unbeaten ton in Buchi Babu Memorial All India Invitational Cricket Tournament.

The team seemed to have overcome the injury scare to their key players such as Sandeep Warrier and Baba Indrajith. Warrier will lead the bowling attack, while Indrajith will try to replicate his usual best in the batting department. The duo played for India C in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy and were taken out with hamstring injuries in the tournament. Moreover, Washington Sundar is unavailable for the first game.
“As of now, they [Warrier and Aparajith have been doing their rehabilitation at the TNCA Academy (in Chepauk). They are being monitored by our physios. And they are also being monitored by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). So, whatever necessary protocols they have to follow for the rehab and getting ready, they are doing that,” selection committee chairman Vasudeva Das said as quoted by Sportstar.
