India and South Africa clashed in the Final of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29. Both the teams remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and the Final game was no less than a thriller. India won the toss and opted to bat first as the pitch was conducive to batting with the outlook. Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant departed early and Suryakumar Yadav played a careless shot as India were reeling on 34 for 3 in four overs. Thanks to Virat Kohli’s 76 off 59 and Axar Patel’s 47 off 31 India posted 176 for 7 on the board.

While chasing, Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram fell to Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh’s variations. Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs pulled South Africa back into the game with 39 and 31 respectively. Heinrich Klaasen unleashed mayhem by scoring 52 off 27 and South Africa were on the pedestal. Hardik Pandya delivered by picking dangerous Klaasen in the 17th over and India were back in the game. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh held a tight grip in the subsequent overs and Proteas needed 16 runs off the last over with Miller on the strike.

Pandya, bowling the 20th over, picked Miller on the first ball as Surykumar orchestrated the most important catch of his life at long-on. He sent Kagiso Rabada back and defended the score by giving away just eight runs. India became the World Champions by seven runs.
