The Super Eights stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 is about to begin, and in game 42, the West Indies will take on England in Group 2. The match will be held at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, on Thursday, June 20.

England secured their spot in the Super Eights after Scotland lost to Australia in the final group-stage match. Meanwhile, the West Indies topped their group and remained undefeated in the tournament. That said, let us discuss the predicted playing combination for the Rovman Powell-led side for the upcoming game.

Here is the strongest predicted playing XI of West Indies for the 42nd match of the T20 WC 2024 against England:

Openers: Brandon King, Johnson Charles

West Indies’ opening pair has encountered challenges in scoring runs during the tournament. Brandon King showed promise with an early innings against Papua New Guinea (PNG), while Johnson Charles faced difficulties, including two low-scoring innings.

Middle-order: Nicholas Pooran (wk), Roston Chase, Rovman Powell (c), Sherfane Rutherford

Nicholas Pooran, the wicketkeeper-batter, is known for impactful innings and he showcased his class in the last game against Afghanistan. Roston Chase has contributed significantly with notable performances. Captain Rovman Powell’s leadership is pivotal, while Sherfane Rutherford has shown match-winning capabilities.

All-rounders: Romario Shepherd, Andre Russell

Romario Shepherd, a fast-bowling all-rounder, has made contributions with both bat and ball. Andre Russell has been instrumental with impressive all-round performances and both these powerhouse would be eager to showcase their mettle in the upcoming important matches.

Bowlers: Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie

Akeal Hosein leads the spin attack, while Gudakesh Motie provides additional depth. Alzarri Joseph has been outstanding in the bowling lineup. Both Akeal and Motie’s contributions are going to be very pivotal, keeping the slow Caribbean wickets in mind.
