In a Group C encounter at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, the West Indies, and Uganda, both buoyed by victories in their previous matches, faced off against each other. Uganda, who were the first side to be playing their third game of the competition, lost the toss and were once again put into the field like their previous couple of games, a recurring theme in their campaign thus far.
To their credit, the Ugandan bowlers exhibited commendable precision in the initial overs. Nevertheless, the co-hosts gradually asserted their dominance, amassing 54 runs during the powerplay. On a challenging batting surface where runs were not easily accrued, the West Indian innings was anchored by steady contributions. Nicholas Pooran, Rovman Powell, and Sherfane Rutherford chipped in with 22, 23, and 22, respectively.
Opener, Johnson Charles, played an unusually restrained innings, compiling 44 runs off 42 deliveries. The innings was further bolstered by a crucial 30-run cameo from Andre Russell towards the end, ultimately propelling the West Indies to what seemed a competitive total of 173/5. Ugandan skipper Brian Masaba, despite being somewhat more costly than left-arm orthodox bowler Alpesh Ramjani, emerged as the standout performer among the bowlers, claiming a couple of wickets to his name.
However, the run-chase descended into utter chaos, reminiscent of their opening clash against Afghanistan, but on a significantly graver and more dismal scale, with numerous records being shattered in the process. Ugandan opener, Roger Mukasa, courtesy of his silver duck, set an unfortunate record for the most ducks by a Ugandan player in T20Is (8), gifting Akeal Hosein his first wicket of the evening. Hosein proceeded to wreak havoc, achieving the best bowling figures for the West Indies in a T20 World Cup (5/11), surpassing Samuel Badree’s 4/15 against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2014.
Batting at No. 9, Juma Miyagi was the sole Uganda player to reach double figures, managing an unbeaten 13 off 20 balls. Uganda was ultimately dismissed for a paltry 39, equalling the record for the lowest total in T20 World Cup history, previously set by the Netherlands against Sri Lanka in the 2014 edition. This debacle culminated in the second-largest victory by runs in the tournament’s history.

Tell me why the 2 last Uganda batsmen are walking off with West Indies and shaking the hands of their own teammates instead of the WI players?
