The Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup continued with the West Indies taking on England. Both sides locked horns at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, in game 42 of the tournament on Thursday, June 20.

The clash began with the Windies coming in to bat first after losing the toss. The side got off to a good start as openers Brandon King and Johnson Charles scored 23 and 38 runs, respectively. Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell scored 36 runs each, with Sherfane Rutherford staying unbeaten on a score of 28 runs as the Windies posted a total of 180 runs in the first innings.

As for England, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, and Liam Livingstone were the wicket-takers for the side, with one wicket each to their names. Aiming to chase down a target of 181 runs, England got off to a flying start to the run chase as opener Phil Salt attacked the Windies right from the get-go.

After Jos Buttler’s dismissal for 25 runs, Phil Salt was the star for England as he amassed 87 runs in 47 deliveries, helping his side chase down the target and register a dominant win. Furthermore, Moeen Ali added 13 runs on the board, whereas Jonny Bairstow played a marvellous innings, scoring 48* runs in 26 deliveries as England chased down the target in 17.3 overs, winning the game by eight wickets.

As for the West Indies, Andre Russell and Roston Chase were the only wicket-takers for the side, with one wicket each to their names. England, who barely made it to the Super Eight stage of the tournament, seem to have drastically improved, and with a win against the co-hosts, the Three Lions will be keen on keeping up their form and attempting to go all the way.
