India took on South Africa in the Final of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29. India won the toss and opted to bat first. Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant walked back after falling cheaply. Suryakumar Yadav did not replicate his last match heroics and Virat Kohli found a solid partner in the form of Axar Patel when India were reeling on 34 for 3. The duo put up a match-defining partnership of 72 runs for the fourth wicket.

Virat trudged back after a marvellous 76 off 59 and Axar was run out on well made 47 off 31 balls. Sivam Dube who was out of form throughout the tournament played a handy knock of 27 off 16 as India posted a defendable target of 176 for 7 on the board. For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje contributed with two wickets each.

While chasing, South Africa were put under pressure as Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram were sent packing for four runs each. Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs brought the Proteas back in the game as they shared 68 runs between them for the third wicket. After Stubbs departed scoring 31 off 21, Heinrich Klaasen gave nightmares to Indian bowlers as he smashed the likes of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel like a walk in the park.

De Kock was dismissed on 39 off 21 and Klaasen continued his onslaught until Hardik Pandya made him nick one to the keeper in the 17 over, he scored a blistering 52 off 27.  Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh were economical at death picking wickets each. But it all boiled down to Pandya bowling the last over with 16 runs to defend and David Miller on strike. He picked on the first ball and sent Rabada packing and India won the Final by seven runs.
