South Africa (SA) took on Bangladesh (BAN) in Match 21 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County Stadium in New York, on June 10. South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. Quinton de Kock scored 18 runs off 11 balls as no other batter from the top-four pitched in as they scored four runs combined. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller steadied the sinking boat as they put up a crucial 79-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The du scored 46 and 29 respectively and the Proteas managed just 113 runs on the board.

While chasing, Bangladesh were 29 for 2 at the end of the powerplay. Shakib Al Hasan continued his poor form with the bat as Towhid Hridoy saved the grace with his 37 runs in 34 balls. With 20 needed off 18 balls, Kagiso Rabada conceded just two runs bowling the 18th over and picked the well-set Hridoy. Mahmudullah and Jaker Ali had a tough task at hand with 18 needed off 12 balls. Keshav Maharaj bowling the final over picked Jaker and Mahmudullah and Bangladesh fell short by four runs.

Here are some highlights from South Africa vs Bangladesh match:

1. Keshav Maharaj picks two crucial wickets in final over

In a surprising move, spinner Keshav Maharaj was summoned to deliver the final over of the Bangladesh chase with 11 runs needed. Maharaj picked Jaker Ali on the third ball and pretty much sealed the game for the Proteas as he plucked Mahmudullah on the fifth ball. It is worth noting that Mahmudullah was batting on 20 off 26 when Maharaj struck.

2. Tanzim Sakib picks three wickets for 18 runs

Tanzim Sakib was the standout bowler for Bangladesh against South Africa. The pacer picked Reeza Hendricks in his very first over. Bowling his second over he pocketed the dangerous-looking Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs was his final scalp of the day and the Proteas were on the backfoot.
