Pakistan took on Canada in Match 22 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Nassau County Stadium in New York on June 11. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Their bowlers exerted pressure since ball one as Canada lost half of their side inside 10 overs with 54 runs on the board. Aaron Johnson held the innings from one end as wickets tumbled on the other end. He scored a crucial 52 runs in 44 balls as Canada posted a small target of 107.
While chasing, Pakistan lost their opener Saim Ayub on the team score of 20 runs in the fifth over but Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam continued the grind. The duo put up 63 runs for the second wicket and Pakistan was in a strong position after Babar was dismissed on 33. Fakhar Zaman departed quickly after scoring just four runs. But Rizwan and Usman Khan saw through Pakistan as the former scored 53* runs and the team won by seven wickets.
Pakistan keep their playoff hopes alive
Pakistan were in dire need of a win after losing two games consecutively. Their victory against Canada has kept their hopes alive in the tournament. But a lot has to depend on the results of other fixtures going their way and hope India win their remaining games comprehensively. Their biggest roadblock would be the USA and they will be praying for them to lose the next fixture.
