New Zealand and Papua New Guinea continued their ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 by facing off in game 39 of the tournament. Both sides faced off at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Monday, June 17. The clash began with Papua New Guinea batting first after losing the toss.
The side opened their innings with Tony Ura and Assad Vala scoring one and six runs, respectively. Charles Amini and Sese Bau scored 17 and 12 runs, respectively, with Hiri Hiri adding seven runs to the board.
New Zealand’s bowling unit put forth a remarkable performance and made sure that Papua New Guinea did not post a big total on the board. Norman Vanua added 14 runs in the middle order as Papua New Guinea posted a total of 78 runs in the first innings.

As for New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson was the highest wicket-taker for his side, with three wickets to his name. Trent Boult, Tim Southee, and Ish Sodhi took two wickets each, with Mitchell Santner striking once as well.
Aiming to chase down a target of 79 runs, New Zealand got off to a horrid start as opener Finn Allen was dismissed for a duck. Furthermore, Rachin Ravindra failed to make an impact after he was sent packing for a score of six runs in 11 deliveries.
Opener Devon Conway showed resilience and played a mature knock, which ensured that the Black Caps chased down the target. Conway scored 35 runs in 32 deliveries, alongside Kane Williamson who stayed unbeaten on a score of 18 runs, with Daryl Mitchell scoring 19* runs as New Zealand chased the target in 12.2 overs, winning the game by seven wickets.
