Australia are set to take on Bangladesh in Match 44 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on June 21 (6 am IST).

Australia are on an extraordinary quest to collect and hold ICC trophies across all formats, seeking to extend their unbeaten streak to five matches in this campaign. Their progression from the group stage of the league was predictably smooth, having been placed in what was arguably the least challenging group (Group B).

Throughout the group stage, their matches exhibited a discernible pattern: they secured victories in their first two games while setting the target, and triumphed in the latter two while chasing. Their final encounter against Scotland proved to be the most challenging, a match devoid of any implications for their advancement. However, it presented a formidable contest against a spirited Scottish side, providing a genuine test of their mettle.

Bangladesh emerged victorious in three out of their four matches, succumbing only to Group D leaders, South Africa, in a fiercely contested match that extended to the very last moment. Pre-tournament expectations for Bangladesh were notably low, especially following their bilateral series defeat to co-hosts, the USA. Nonetheless, they surpassed all anticipations, advancing beyond the group-stage for the first time in their T20 World Cup history – a commendable achievement by any measure.

However, Bangladesh’s persistent batting struggles in challenging conditions remains a significant obstacle. To contend effectively against a formidable Australian bowling attack, where every bowler is eager and primed, Bangladesh will need to adopt a more proactive approach. The highest strike-rate among their batters this campaign stands at a mere 125, a statistic that must be addressed promptly to mount a substantial challenge against one of the top teams of the competition.

Australia have maintained an unblemished record against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cups, triumphing in all five encounters. However, it is pertinent to note that Australia have faced significant challenges against Bangladesh in other T20Is, as evidenced by their performances outside the mega-event.
