India’s victory over Australia by 24 runs on Monday guaranteed them a spot in the second semi-final, which will match them up against England on June 27 (8:00 PM IST) at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
England will likely face the undefeated Indian team if they finish first in Group 1 of the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 after South Africa’s thrilling victory over the West Indies on Monday put them at the top of the table in Group 2. England finished second in Group 2 of the Super 8.
It should be an exciting match as India, the overwhelming favourites, takes against the reigning champions, England, for a chance to advance to the final, which will be a rematch of the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal.

When England defeated India in semifinal of 2022 T20 World Cup
In the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022, England and India met at the Adelaide Oval on November 10, 2022. England emerged victorious, thanks to a devastating display from Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, who helped them chase down the target of 169 in just 16 overs and with 10 wickets remaining. India had to alter their T20 batting blueprint after that match, but on June 27, they will get another opportunity to prove themselves in Guyana.
As the winners of Group 2, South Africa will play in the first semifinal, where, if they advance, they would play either Australia, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh instead of India. In contrast, England might face India if they win their Super 8 group.
The second semi-final in Guyana is a day game (8:30 PM IST), more suited for the Indian TV audience. The first semifinal in Trinidad takes place on June 26 at night (6:00 AM IST). India will participate in the second semi-final regardless of where they place in their Super 8 group.
