Australia are set to face India in the Match 51 of the T20 World Cup 2024. The clash will take place at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, and is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM IST on Monday, June 24.
India have been exceptional in the T20 World Cup so far, remaining unbeaten and virtually securing a spot in the semi-finals. In their most recent match, they achieved a dominant victory over Bangladesh. With a strong net run rate, India’s position in the semi-finals seems secure even if they were to lose against Australia.
Australia, however, are in a precarious position following a surprising 21-run defeat to Afghanistan. This loss has jeopardized their tournament campaign. To remain in contention, Australia must secure a victory against India. Should Australia lose to India and Afghanistan triumph over Bangladesh, Australia will be eliminated from the tournament.
Here’s the predicted line-up for Australia against India –
Openers — David Warner, Travis Head
Leading up to the T20 World Cup, David Warner’s form was under intense scrutiny, with a faction of supporters advocating for Jake Fraser-McGurk to replace the left-handed opener. Nevertheless, the team management maintained their confidence in Warner, and he vindicated their trust with impressive performances during the group stage. With 172 runs in the tournament so far, he would hope to continue the same momentum going forward, despite a poor game against Afghanistan.
Warner’s opening partner, Travis Head, can be destructive as well, as demonstrated by his explosive batting during IPL 2024. However, he’s not been at his best in this tournament, often failing to convert his starts. Nevertheless, Head is poised to seize the opportunity and deliver a crucial performance for the team in this pivotal encounter.

Middle order — Mitchell Marsh (c), Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk)
Skipper Mitchell Marsh is yet to make a significant impact. After departing from the Delhi Capitals prematurely due to a hamstring injury, the 32-year-old has struggled to regain his optimal form. He hasn’t bowled since the IPL, although there’s been speculation about him potentially returning to bowling duties if needed during the knockout stages.
Tim David possesses exceptional prowess and hitting power and is capable of making a significant impact on the big stage with his explosive batting. He would be eager to showcase his class and deliver powerful performances.
Wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has batted thrice in the tournament, against England, Scotland, and Afghanistan remaining unbeaten on two occasions while he was dismissed cheaply in the last match. While he has the ability to finish games, he requires more time in the middle to fully capitalize on his potential.

All-rounders — Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell, conversely, has had a subdued group-stage campaign thus far, following a grim IPL 2024 season. However, he played a brilliant half-century knock in the last match against Afghanistan. He’d be eager to harness his abilities across both batting and bowling to enhance his value to the team, and his potential for making a significant impact should not be underestimated.
Marcus Stoinis has emerged as one of Australia’s standout performers in the tournament. Nicknamed “The Hulk,” he has amassed 167 runs across the four innings he’s featured in at an astounding strike rate of 187.24. He has additionally made valuable contributions with the ball, securing six wickets, thus showcasing his multifaceted impact in the matches.
Bowlers — Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa
Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood will spearhead Australia’s formidable pace attack against India, bringing their fiery fast bowling to the forefront. Complementing the pace trio, spinner Adam Zampa is set to support them with his guile and tricky leg-spin googlies, aiming to confound the Indian batters with his variations.
