The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024 concluded with Mumbai being crowned as the champions. The Shreyas Iyer-led side defeated Madhya Pradesh in the summit clash of the tournament to lift the silverware. Throughout the course of the tournament, there were several performances from the players that stood out.
Apart from the batters, there were many bowlers who put in excellent performances throughout the enthralling tournament.
Let’s look at the top three wicket takers in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024–25:
3. Shardul Thakur, Mukesh Choudhary (15 Wickets each)
Mumbai’s Shardul Thakur and Maharashtra’s Mukesh Choudhary are tied in third place in the list of the top three wicket-takers from the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. It is worth noting that Shardul was exceptional with the ball throughout the season for Mumbai. In nine matches, Thakur took 15 wickets, with best bowling figures of 4/25.
Thakur’s performance was crucial for Mumbai in their title-winning campaign. Furthermore, Mukesh Choudhary, who represented Maharashtra in the SMAT 2024, is also tied with Thakur in third place. Choudhary played six matches in the recently concluded-tournament and managed to take 15 wickets as well. Despite not getting to win the tournament, the left-arm pacer’s performances for Maharashtra definitely stood out.
2. Kumar Kartikeya (17 Wickets)
Left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya, representing Madhya Pradesh in the recently concluded SMAT 2024, had a brilliant season with the ball as well. He proved to be an impact player for MP with the ball, taking 17 wickets in the 10 matches that he played throughout the tournament.
His performances saw him finish the competition as the second highest wicket-taker for the season. However, despite his exceptional spells, he was unable to help MP win the title after the side was defeated in the summit clash of the tournament by Mumbai.
1. Jagjit Singh (18 Wickets)
Hailing from Chandigarh, Jagjit Singh finished the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 campaign as the highest wicket-taker of the competition. The right-arm medium pacer played seven matches in the tournament and managed to take a whopping 18 wickets in the process as well.

The 27-year-old maintained an economy of 8.48 with the best bowling figures of 5/38. Despite being the highest wicket-taker of the competition, Jagjit’s performances could not propel his side to the title.
