The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) recently came forward to announce India’s ODI and T20I squads for their upcoming tour to Sri Lanka. It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma will be leading the ODI setup, whereas star batter Suryakumar Yadav was announced as India’s T20I skipper for the series against Sri Lanka.
Despite Hardik Pandya being present in the T20I lineup, Suryakumar Yadav has been handed the responsibilities of the skipper, with Shubman Gill being his deputy. Shortly after he was named the skipper, an old video of Suryakumar Yadav resurfaced.
In the clip from 2023, the star batter can be seen talking about his responsibilities as skipper. The video was made after Suryakumar had led India to a 4-1 win against Australia and then a 1-1 draw against South Africa in the shortest format.
“I am really enjoying this new role, enjoying spending time with everybody, and we all have played together a lot either in franchise cricket or in state cricket, so it’s not that difficult to understand their strengths and weaknesses. And off the field, we also spend so much time, so the rapport we have on the field becomes very good,” Suryakumar Yadav said in the clip shared by Star Sports.

“It’s important for me to keep things simple, I am a process-oriented man, I like to keep things simple and that’s what I try and tell everybody that try and keep things really simple, don’t try and be a different version of yourself,” he added.
India’s tour of Sri Lanka is all set to begin on July 27. The tour will kick off with a three-game T20I series, followed by a three-game ODI series, which will begin on August 1. Apart from Hardik Pandya, the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant have made their return to the side after being rested for the Zimbabwe tour.
