Suryakumar’s iconic catch to dismiss David Miller in the final of the T20 World Cup turned into a Ganesh Puja theme pandal in Vapi, Gujarat. The catch eventually helped India win the marquee tournament for the first time in 17 years and it also helped the Men in Blue win their first ICC trophy in over 10 years.
Notably, South Africa needed 16 runs to win in the final over of the match. Hardik Pandya was handed the ball and he unfortunately bowled a wide full-toss, which Miller moved across the stumps and connected well. It looked like a six from every corner of the ground but Suryakumar picked up a running catch near long-off to help India script a comeback. The Rohit Sharma-led side eventually went on to win the match by seven runs.
Since the incident, the Indian cricket fans have paid several tributes to the Mumbai batter. Recently, the Ganesh Puja theme temple regarding his catch is also one of the memorable methods the fans used to remember his contribution in the final.
