Former Australia captain and legend Steve Waugh took out his valuable time to meet his ‘loyal friend’ and the former India head coach and legend, Rahul Dravid, in Bengaluru recently. Waugh was all praises for the ‘The Wall’ for being fiercely competitive while on the field in the most pressure situations against Australia. Moreover, he called him a genuine long-time and loyal friend away from the game.
In the same vein, the legendary Australian took to his social media handle to share about his cherished meeting with his friend after a long time. Notably, Waugh has been in India’s tech city to take part in an expo related to space projects. It is worth noting that both the governments of Australia and India have been working together in the space technology sector for quite some time now.
“Upmost respect for this outstanding cricketer and person. Fierce opponent who was unbreakable under pressure on the field yet a loyal and genuine friend off the field. The ‘wall’ Rahul Dravid,” Waugh captioned his post on his Instagram handle.

Dravid and Laxman’s special knocks trumped Steve Waugh’s Australia in Kolkata
Now speaking of their most memorable face-offs against each other, who can forget about the Kolkata Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy played in 2001? At that juncture, Steve Waugh’s Australia was nearly invincible across the formats. However, the Indian team made a mind-boggling comeback to win the Test series by a margin of 2-1.
Waugh led his team from the front with the bat and scored a scintillating century in the first innings. As a result, Australia posted a monumental 445 runs on the board. While the hosts had a rather nightmarish start to their first innings and ended up getting a follow-on.

While things were looking quite merry for the Australians at that stage, a miraculous 180-run knock by the Indian stalwart Rahul Dravid and a memorable match-defining stand with VVS Laxman (281), who nearly scored a triple ton. As a result, this not only allowed team India to overcome the deficit but also post a decent target for Australia to chase in the second innings.
However, as the legend stands to date, India went on to dramatically win the Kolkata Test, thereby making it one of the greatest victories in the history of Test cricket.
