The 46th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings and the five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday, May 3.

After Punjab posted a whopping 214 runs on the board after the first innings, the five-time champions came in to chase the huge total. However, they got off to the worst of starts in the run chase as skipper Rohit Sharma was sent packing by Rishi Dhawan on a duck. The veteran Indian batter was dismissed off the third ball of the first over.

With his dismissal, Rohit Sharma equalled the record for most ducks by a batter in the IPL. Tied in first place with 15 ducks, Rohit made his name alongside the likes of Dinesh Karthik, Mandeep Singh, and Sunil Narine, all of whom have been dismissed on a duck 15 times as well.

Furthermore, the 36-year-old also claimed the record for most single-digit scores in the tournament. The Mumbai skipper has been dismissed on a single-digit score 70 times in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians chase down 215 runs against Punjab Kings

Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Punjab Kings lost Prabhsimran Singh quite early into the first innings. However, skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Matt Short looked to stabilise the innings. Although both batters failed to make much of an impact, Dhawan amassed 30 runs, with Short adding 27 runs to his name.

Thanks to the brilliant knocks by Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma that Punjab managed to post a whopping 214 runs on the board. Livingstone played an unbeaten knock of 82 runs in 42 balls, with Jitesh Sharma scoring 49 runs in 27 balls.

After a shaky start to the first innings, Mumbai rode on the heroics of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav to successfully chase down the target against Punjab. While Kishan top scored with 75, Suryakumar played a valuable knock of 66 to take MI home.
