Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed an impressive record during the clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The veteran offie holds the record for dismissing most batters for a duck in as many as 20 occasions in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Notably, Ashwin got two scalps in the clash against the four-time champions as he dismissed Ajinkya Rahane and Impact Player Ambati Rayudu. Moreover, while dismissing Rayudu for a second-ball duck, Ashwin etched his name in the history books as he became the first bowler to dismiss batters on 20 occasions for a nought in the top-tier league. The spinner returned with decent figures as he gave away 35 runs in his four overs and bagged two wickets.
RR dislodge CSK from top spot
Speaking about the game, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler put up a solid stand as the pair got 86 runs for the first wicket. Jaiswal concluded his innings as he notched up 77 off 43 balls with eight fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 179.06.
Down the order, Dhruv Jurel played a quickfire knock of 34 off 15 balls, whereas Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten to score 27 off 13 as he cracked five boundaries to help steer the Royals to 202 runs in the first innings. Meanwhile, Tushar Deshpande got two wickets, whereas Maheesh Theekshana and Ravindra Jadeja picked one wicket apiece.
In response, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube compiled scores of 47 and 52 runs, respectively. However, CSK were under pressure as the wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals, which eventually cost them the match.
The required run rate kept shooting up despite having Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. Rajasthan eventually won the clash by 32 runs, thereby completing a double over CSK in the ongoing season. In doing so, not only did the Royals end CSK’s three-match winning streak but also dislodged the latter from first place. Sanju Samson and Co. play Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 30 and will be gunning to keep their momentum intact.
