Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell attained an unwanted record during the clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Maxwell has now been dismissed by spin, a record seven times in his nine outings thus far in the IPL 2023.

Notably, the two sides squared off in match 43 of the league at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Monday, May 1. Upon winning the toss, Faf du Plessis decided to bat first.

However, RCB endured a quiet start to the powerplay (1-6 overs) as they managed to score mere 42 runs. Soon after the powerplay, LSG struck blows at regular intervals as they got the prized scalp of Virat Kohli (31 off 30 balls) and followed it with Anuj Rawat’s (9 off 11 balls) wicket.

The franchise pinned their hopes on Glenn Maxwell to help inject some momentum in the slower wicket in Lucknow. However, the Aussie batter too failed to hit the ground running and headed back to the dugout after getting trapped by spinner Ravi Bishnoi for mere four runs off five balls.

In doing so, the batter got his name in an unwanted record list. Of the nine matches played thus far, Maxwell has been dismissed on as many as seven occasions by the spinners.

However, the batter is the third-highest run-getter for the side with 262 runs collected in nine matches. In addition to this, he has laced the number with three fifties at an average of 32.75. Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi recorded impressive bowling figures as he got two wickets under his belt. In addition to this, he gave mere 21 runs in his four overs with a stunning economy of 5.25.

RCB are placed sixth on the IPL Points Table with four wins and as many losses whereas KL Rahul’s Super Giants are in second place with five wins and three losses in eight matches. RCB will need to up the ante and obtain results in their favour to keep their playoff hopes alive.
