With the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 just a day away, all eyes are on star batter Virat Kohli, who has registered his name in the India-Australia Test cricket rivalry. In four tours and 13 matches, Kohli is on the brink of creating cricket history once again.

Since his first tour in 2011-12, from a young talent, he has gone on to become a batting phenomenon who has consistently challenged Australia on their home turf. The 36-year-old has managed to score 1,352 runs at an impressive average of 54.08, including six centuries. He is currently tied with Sachin Tendulkar for the most number of tons in Australia. A single century in the upcoming series would see him surpass the Little Master.

His breakthrough season came in the 2014-15 series, where he scored 692 runs with an average of 86.50, including a memorable 169. While his subsequent tours showed some degrees of success, his ability to adapt and compete remained the same. The 2018-19 tour saw Kohli lead India to a historic series victory, while the 2020-21 tour, though cut short by personal reasons, still saw him take on the big challenge.

Jasprit Bumrah’s faith in Virat Kohli

Meanwhile, during the pre-match press conference, stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah spoke about the veteran batter’s confidence after a prolonged run drought. Bumrah mentioned that his in good shape and is ready to take on the Aussies.

“I don’t need to give any input. He is the utmost professional we have in our team. I made my debut under him. One series can go up and down, but the confidence he has at this moment, I have no doubts. The signs are ominous, I don’t want to jinx it by saying anything else, but he looks in very good shape,” Bumrah said
