Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the appointment of former Sri Lankan cricketer Tharindu Perera as the new assistant coach of the women’s national team. Notably, the appointment could work wonders for Sri Lanka women, as he has an ECB Level 4 Specialist Coach Award. Furthermore, Perera has a plethora of experience as a coach with Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Adelaide Strikers, and Red Backs.

Perera has worked as a high-performance coach for Warwickshire with the coaching team during the County Championship, One Day Cup, T20 Blast, and Warwickshire Academy.

Furthermore, he was a support coach focusing on the methodology of batting and spin at Adelaide Strikers and Red Backs. He was also the assistant coach for the England Young Lions in a warm-up game in 2022.

Perera’s stint with Sri Lanka cricket will last two years, and it began on Saturday, July 1. It could be interesting to see how far the women’s team of Sri Lanka will go and what they will achieve in Perera’s tenure.

Sri Lanka women gear up for T20I series against New Zealand

For their next assignment, Sri Lanka women will be taking on New Zealand women in a three-match T20I series. The first WT20I of the series will be played on Saturday, July 8 at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka recently defeated the White Ferns in a three-match ODI series, which they won 2-1. Sri Lanka won the first and the third game of the ODI series, both by the DLS method and the hosts will be keen on putting on a similar show when the T20I series gets underway.

Led by Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka have been in good form so far, and it would be no surprise if they defeat New Zealand in the forthcoming matches once again. However, the visitors will not be making things easy for the island nation and will be keen on putting up a good fight.
