South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batter Trisha Chetty has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, March 17. The 34-year-old cricketer has been suffering from a persistent back injury. She has made over 200 appearances in her 16-year international career.

“The time has come for me to hang up my boots and let the gloves catch dust. I have tried everything to keep playing and have pushed as hard as I can, but my body is signaling that it has no more to give, and it is time to retire from all forms of cricket,” Chetty said to News24.

The Proteas star expressed that she could not believe her career was over and her cricketing career had been a life-changing experience for her.

“This was not an easy decision for me, and even now, I can’t quite believe my career is over. However, my cricket career has been a life-changing experience, and I look back with no regrets and a full heart. Cricket has taught me about life, being disciplined, what it means to be professional and how to be a team player. For this, I will always be grateful. And I choose to continue to be grateful for cricket as I retire and transition into the next chapter of my life,” she added.

Trisha Chetty holds the world record for most dismissals in ODIs

The stalwart keeper-batter made her international debut in 2007 against Pakistan. The Durban-born cricketer holds the world record for most dismissals (182) in the 50-over format. She has scored over 2700 runs in ODIs and has 16 fifties.

The ace keeper-batter sits on top of the most dismissals (23) list in a single series- ICC Women’s Championship 2014-2016/17. She also has a record for most catches (131) and joint-most stumpings (51) in Women’s ODIs.
