The excitement for the ODI World Cup 2023 is all over India as the mega event is all set to be hosted by the cricket-crazy nation from October 5. Being a home World Cup, the Men in Blue will be getting the full support from the crowd as stadiums all over the country will reverberate with chants of ‘India! India!’. However, captain Rohit Sharma will be under tremendous pressure to emulate the heroics of MS Dhoni’s-men from 2011 who became the first team to win a World Cup at home.

Ahead of the cricketing extravaganza, the Indian skipper has got the backing of the legendary India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh who has full faith that Rohit will fire with the bat in the mega event. Recently, Yuvraj mentioned the ‘pep talk’ he had with the Indian batter before the 2019 World Cup where he went on to shatter records with his stupendous performances.

“I understand that Rohit Sharma is not in the best of forms right now. Last time also before the 2019 World Cup, he was not in good form in the IPL. And I told him that something special is coming, just be in the zone. And he went on to score 4-5 hundreds in the World Cup. So maybe he is not in the greatest form right now because he will go berserk at the World Cup. You never know. Everything happens for a reason. The same thing happened with me, and that’s what Sachin told me,” Yuvraj said on the Cricket Basu YouTube channel.

Rohit Sharma was the highest run scorer of the 2019 World Cup

Notably, Rohit finished as the highest run scorer of the 2019 World Cup where he amassed 648 runs from nine innings at an average of 81 and a strike rate of 98.33. The opening batter smacked one fifty and five hundreds during the tournament which is a world record for most centuries in a single edition.

Come the ODI World Cup 2023, the 36-year-old who’s possibly playing his last World Cup, will be eager to emulate his ‘2019 magic’ and plunder runs for India throughout the tournament. The Indian team is desperate to end their 10-year-long ICC trophy drought and there wouldn’t be a better way to do it than winning a World Cup at home.
