India skipper Rohit Sharma has been on cloud nine ever since his side’s title win at the T20 World Cup 2024. The star cricketer has been bestowed with endless love and affection by fans all over the globe. The Men in Blue became the first side to finish the T20 World Cup undefeated.

Amid the celebrations, Rohit Sharma took to his social media platforms and changed his profile picture. However, the picture has garnered the wrong kind of attention since he changed his profile picture, as he was accused of disrespecting the Indian flag.

Rohit chose the picture of planting the Indian flag at the Kensington Oval in Barbados after India’s win against South Africa in the final as his profile picture. Seeing the photo, a fan took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and highlighted how the flag was seen touching the ground in the picture. Many even talked about the insult of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971: “The (Indian) flag shall not be allowed intentionally to touch the ground or the floor or trail in water.”

I will remember that ground forever: Rohit Sharma

Furthermore, Rohit Sharma also scraped some ground in Barbados after the World Cup win. Highlighting how he wanted to remember that moment forever, the skipper stated that he wanted a part of it to stay with him.

“I was feeling the moment when I went to the pitch because that pitch gave us this. We played on that particular pitch and we won the game, that particular ground as well. I will remember that ground forever in my life and that pitch as well. So I wanted to have a piece of it with me. So yeah, those moments are very, very special. And the place where all our dreams came true, I wanted something of it. That was the feeling behind it,” Rohit Sharma said in a video shared by the BCCI.

The ace batter also announced his retirement from T20I cricket after the win, alongside Virat Kohli, who also announced his retirement from the format. The two stalwarts of Indian cricket called it quits, and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja too followed at the perfect moment after winning the biggest title in the format.
