India was bundled for 180 runs in the second Test against Australia in Adelaide. Captain Rohit Sharma opted to bat first but the visitors failed to make a mark as six batters failed to register in double digits. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal departed on the first ball while veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit too failed to take control in the middle. On the other hand, Australia pacer Mitchell Starc was ruthless on the opening day, clinching a five-wicket haul.

The hosts started well with the bat as well. Usman Khawaja departed for 13 runs but Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne batted well to help Australia finish the day on 86/1. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah looked in good rhythm but Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana could not impress. Meanwhile, after the game, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate mentioned that the Indian team was in no mood to panic despite a rough Day 1.

He reminded India’s turnaround in the first Test in Perth and noted that with a few tweaks, the visitors could stage a comeback into the contest on Day 2. He added that the surface will provide swing and a little bit of seam and the team will look forward to capitalising on that.

“I know that the scores look like there is a big gap between the two teams but we still feel we are in the game and with a few tweaks tomorrow (Saturday), we can get back in the game. This team doesn’t need the coaches to go into the dressing room and say we need to fight. The guys understand that implicitly and it’s obviously a very proud team who wants to come here and do well,” Doeschate said in the press conference.

“There certainly is a little bit of swing and a little bit of seam still there. So we’re pretty confident we can still turn it around. At Perth, we got bowled out for 150 and still, we got back into that game. This is a proud team and the players want to come here and do well. We may be slightly behind in the game now but there certainly won’t be any surrendering,” he added.
