On the eve of the third and final ODI to cap off the white-ball tour, a net session at the R. Premadasa Stadium featured Indian opener, Shubman Gill, in an extensive and detailed discussion with star batters, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The conversation appears to have focused on refining his batting technique and identifying areas for improvement following his time at the nets.

Notably, Gill has struggled for form during the Sri Lanka tour. Although he made a promising start in the first T20I, his innings was cut short as he was dismissed after an explosive 16-ball 34.
In the second T20I the following day, Gill was sidelined due to a neck spasm. However, it was the third T20I that marked a noticeable decline in his form. He managed only 39 runs from the 37 deliveries he faced, which proved insufficient according to his standards despite the pitch being slow and challenging for scoring.

The ODI segment of the series was disappointing for Gill, evident from his scores of 16 and 35, achieved off 35 and 44 deliveries respectively. This phase also drew considerable attention due to his opening partner, the skipper, whose innings showcased a striking contrast with their aggressive intent and assertiveness.
What may be more concerning for Gill is that despite being favored over players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhishek Sharma, his performance has remained subpar. This is particularly troubling given his previous success in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, where he not only captained the side but also emerged as the leading run-scorer.

As the vice-captain of the Indian squad for both segments of the Sri Lanka series, he will be keen to conclude the third ODI with a substantial innings and rejuvenate his form for upcoming series.
