Rajasthan’s very own Manav Suthar has announced himself in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024. Playing for India C in the tournament, Suthar took seven wickets in the second innings against India D, putting in an exceptional performance.
Suthar’s career trajectory would have been completely different had he followed what his father envisioned for him during his early days. Suthar’s father wanted his son to pursue batting.
“Make him a batsman the world fears,” were the words that Suthar’s father told his coach during his early days. However, his coach spotted something different and saw the younsgter’s potential as a spinner.
“My coach told him, ‘Sir, this fellow is made to be a spinner. Don’t stop him. He is my responsibility now.’ That was that,” Manav was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
Talking of the same, the 21-year-old’s coach Dheeraj talked about the way that he gripped the ball when he was very youngfter. Once his conversation was completed, it was just about fixing his technique.
“He is a gifted spinner. The first aspect that struck me was how he gripped the ball. At 12, not many boys have that sort of grip. But he had to get a few other aspects right. He was getting good turns, but to make it effective, we worked on his body alignment a lot. It used to be a bit across earlier, but if you have to be successful at the highest level, you can’t have a faulty technique. So we started off by working on his alignment that allowed him to develop a repeatable action without any trouble,” Dheeraj said.
